    bullet point  Our Mission

It is the mission of UPMC Shadyside's Family Medicine Residency Program to train excellent family physicians and to serve the community. We provide comprehensive training in family medicine. Our program serves the local community by providing a continuum of high quality patient care to all members of the family unit. In addition, the faculty teaches its residents how to coordinate a patient’s health care and best utilize the variety of professionals and agencies available. The residents are comfortable practicing in a variety of settings – urban or rural, and they are competent in a wide range of hospital and office procedures. Residents who train in our program are fully prepared for board certification in family medicine.

The curriculum (program) fulfills the following requirements:

American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
    American Osteopathc Association (AOA)
American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)
    Residency Review Committee (RRC)
Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
    ACGME Core Competencies

Our ultimate goal as physicians is to provide the best health care possible for our patients. As you begin this journey into your professional career, this commitment should be your guide.
