In 2007 the American Osteopathic Association approved a three year UPMC Shadyside Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as the sponsoring institution.

The Osteopathic Residents will be integrated into the UPMC Shadyside Allopathic Program, one of the most well-established and highly respected Family Medicine Residencies in Western Pennsylvania. Osteopathic physicians will share in the same curriculum and educational experiences as the Allopathic physicians throughout the residency. In addition, Osteopathic Residents are required to participate in regularly scheduled seminars and workshops specific to Osteopathic Medicine such as Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. Osteopathic Residents will participate in outpatient OMM clinics with direct Osteopathic faculty supervision.

Osteopathic Residents enjoy the same salary and benefits as those offered to the Allopathic Family Medicine Residents.
