    bullet point  Resident Teaching Experiences

UPMC Shadyside Residents have the opportunity to provide education to both undergraduate and medical students in a variety of settings. One program pairs a Resident with a third- or fourth-year CMU college student who has an interest in pursuing a career in medicine, and the students spend one-half day per week for six weeks shadowing the resident. Residents also help train medical students from numerous medical schools, including the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State Hershey Medical School, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in both the out- and in-patient settings during their Family Medicine Clerkships and Acting Internships. Other opportunities for teaching are also available if the resident has a special interest.
