Rowena D. Pingul-Ravano, MD

Rowena D. Pingul-Ravano, MD, FAAFP is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. Originally from the Philippines and raised in Southern California, she is a graduate of the University of Southern California, and received her medical training at the University of the East. She completed her residency training and served as Chief Resident at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Following residency, she pursued a fellowship in Maternal Child Health at Alpert Medical School of Brown University/MHRI where she served as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and was actively involved in medical student and resident education. She completed a Faculty Development, Teaching & Learning Fellowship at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. Prior to joining the Faculty at UPMC Shadyside, she served as the Maternity Care Director at Forbes Family Medicine Residency Program. She joined the faculty in Shadyside in 2013.

During her MCH fellowship, Dr. Pingul-Ravano implemented Centering Pregnancy: A Model for Group Prenatal Care in Preventing Preterm Birth. As a Shadyside Grant Recipient in 2014, she implemented the first Family Medicine Centering Pregnancy in Pittsburgh and in the UPMC System at Shadyside FHC. She currently serves as the Director of The Centering Pregnancy at Shadyside FHC. She also serves as a certified ALSO Instructor for the annual ALSO Course. Her special interests include obstetrics in family medicine (especially prevention of preterm labor), family centered maternity care, women's health care (especially HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention), and global health for women and evidence based medicine. Dr. Pingul-Ravano is a dedicated volunteer: internationally in Jamaica at The Treasure Beach Women’s Group Medical Mission and locally at The East End Cooperative Ministry (men’s shelter for the homeless in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and Bethlehem Haven Clinic (women’s shelter for the homeless also located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). During her free time, she enjoys photography, writing, Philippine cultural dancing, and traveling internationally. Most importantly, she loves spending quality time with her husband and their two daughters.
