Samta Amin, MD, MA

  • Third Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

No, but I am interested in caring for underserved populations, LGBTQ and gender affirming care, addiction medicine, and reproductive care.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program?  Why Pittsburgh?

I chose Shadyside because I was looking for the best of both worlds – a large academic urban hospital and community-oriented clinic. During my interview (despite being virtual), I was able to make connections with faculty and residents and felt welcomed by everyone!

I am excited to be in Pittsburgh for the next three years, where I will be closer to my family. Pittsburgh has all the perks of being in a city while still having lots of parks, rivers, and natural spaces to explore!

What are your goals while here in the residency program?  How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goal is to become to a well-rounded family physician and patient advocate. While in residency, I want to strengthen my clinical skills while learning more about health disparities and community health. My goal is to provide compassionate, equitable, and effective care to all my patients.

Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?

Outside of residency, I love to walk and explore different neighborhoods, restaurants, and coffee shops around the city! I also enjoy cooking, reading, and finding new shows to watch.
