Dr. Simasek is the Director of Newborn and Pediatric Services in the UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Simasek received her medical degree from Temple University where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed a pediatric residency and a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics and community medicine at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She recently completed a master's degree in counseling psychology at Chatham University and is interested in integrating behavioral health care for children in primary care. Dr. Simasek currently serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Clinical Practice Guideline Sub-Committee for Screening and Management of High Blood Pressure in Children.

Before joining the Family Medicine Residency faculty, Dr. Simasek worked as a hospital-based pediatrician and then as a community pediatrician. In addition to teaching and consulting in the Family Medicine Residency, Dr. Simasek maintains a small practice at the Family Health Center and oversees the school health programs of UPMC Shadyside. She is especially interested in prevention of high-risk behaviors in adolescents. Dr. Simasek has received more than one million dollars in grants to implement and evaluate teen pregnancy prevention programs in the school setting.

She has one adult daughter who is in medical school and two adult step daughters. She lives in a big old house with her husband and their Haitian art collection and has a beautiful garden to which she devotes much of her free time.
