Interests:
Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?
I am not yet sure but am hoping to be considered for the underserved track and also have interests in HIV medicine.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency program? Why Pittsburgh?
Why Pittsburgh? I felt very much at home during my interview at UPMC Shadyside. I was welcomed by the students, faculty and staff and was impressed by the enthusiasm and friendliness throughout the process. I had heard that there were a lot of great people here and immediately felt this confirmed during my interactions with passionate interesting people dedicated to supporting each other and the communities they serve. The communities of Pittsburgh are filled with truly genuine people with more pride and spirit than anywhere else I have been. Pittsburgh is a city with a strong history, but always full of surprises and I honestly can’t imagine a better place to live and work.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? I look forward to advocating for the health of underserved communities around Pittsburgh. Strong didactics and faculty mentorship, as well as experiential learning and inspiration from patients, will support my growth in knowledge and confidence as a physician throughout this exciting process.

Do you have any special interests outside of the residency program?
I like to spend as much time outside as possible-hiking, camping, running, biking, adventuring of all sorts. California was ideal for all of this during medical school, but I am excited to be back in Western Pa- there are countless accessible opportunities here for outdoor enthusiasts, both within the city and surrounding lush wilderness. Frick Park is one of my favorite treasures of Pittsburgh. I am also a dedicated foodie of sorts-I love farmers markets and wandering around the strip district on Saturday mornings collecting yummy treasures to cook and share with friends. The restaurants in Pittsburgh range from more low-key delicious hole-in-the wall ethnic food to more upscale creative options that don’t usually require the same degree of investment and fore planning of similarly exciting “trendy places” in other cities. I anticipate this will be thekey to a busy commitment-averse resident on a limited budget.
