Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?
I am not on a specific track but I intend to pay special focus on community outreach medicine and also I have an added interest in Geriatrics.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program?
I chose UPMC Shadyside for a variety of reasons. To start off, I was looking for a university affiliated program with strong ties to the community. I saw that UPMC Shadyside perfectly struck the balance of being academically stellar and also training residents for real life practice. The program has a pristine reputation of graduating very well-rounded family medicine physicians. During my visit and meeting with Dr. Randy Kolb, staff, and residents, I felt a compatibility of personalities and values that I knew would be crucial in optimizing my residency training.

Why Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh happens to be a city with some east coast flavor minus the horrid congestion. Growing up on the east coast Iím used to being in a multicultural setting and Pittsburgh definitely provides that. Itís a city booming with young professionals and activities for people with all types of interests. Being a big sports buff, having three professional teams in town is a huge positive as well.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?
I hope to leave residency a competent physician that is able to provide the highest quality of care in any primary care setting. My goal is to be comfortable dealing with a vast array of pathology on my own and also having the foresight to know when to seek help. My initial reason for wanting to go into medicine was to serve my community in some capacity. I intend to learn how best to harmoniously tie together the field of medicine and community outreach.
I believe every patient and case during residency has to be treated as a learning experience in order to optimize your training. I intend to approach my training at UPMC Shadyside as such.

Do you have any special interests outside of the residency program?
Outside of Medicine, I enjoy all types of physical activity but most specifically basketball and good old fashioned weight lifting. When Iím done lifting weights, I immensely enjoy wasting all my efforts by eating extra greasy and flavorful food.
Other than burning and consuming calories I enjoy spending time with family and friends while drinking caffeinated beverages.
