In 2007, the American Osteopathic Association approved a three year UPMC Shadyside Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) as the sponsoring institution. Since that time, our osteopathic program has consistently received maximum accreditation from the AOA, and we now offer 4 AOA-approved residency spots per class.
The Osteopathic Residents are integrated into the UPMC Shadyside Allopathic Program, making them dually-accredited in one of the most well-established and highly respected Family Medicine Residencies in Western Pennsylvania. Osteopathic physicians share in the same curriculum and educational experiences as the Allopathic physicians throughout the residency. In addition, Osteopathic Residents participate in regularly scheduled outpatient OMT clinics with direct Osteopathic faculty supervision, residency seminars, OMT videoconferences hosted by PCOM, and workshops specific to Osteopathic Medicine training. Our program is pursuing Osteopathic Recognition under the new ACGME accreditation system.
Osteopathic Residents enjoy the same salary and benefits as those offered to the Allopathic Family Medicine Residents.
Four American Osteopathic Association (AOA) positions will be available through the Osteopathic Match. The program director will begin to review applications on Monday, August 21, 2017. Interviews will be conducted on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Monday, October 23 through Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
No interviews will be scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 24.
