Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

I am not in a special track, however, some of my main interests include Sports Medicine, POCUS, and Academic Medicine.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Pittsburgh?

I went to college at the University of Pittsburgh (Hail to Pitt!), which gave me the opportunity to see what both UPMC and the city of Pittsburgh had to offer in terms of medical education as well as overall lifestyle. When I was deciding on a residency program, UPMC first came to mind, as two of my mentors both received training in the UPMC network. I also knew that I wanted to go to an established program that had a clear vision for its residents, as well as the means to get them there. During my interview, I could tell that UPMC Shadyside would embrace my interests in Sports Medicine and POCUS and could provide me ways to further explore these areas. In terms of Pittsburgh, what drew me back was the chance to live in a city that was big enough to offer plenty of variety, while still managing to avoid many of the issues that big cities face.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

I chose family medicine to become an excellent, well-rounded physician with the knowledge and experience to respond to a wide array of medical problems at a moment’s notice. Whether that be delivering a newborn, treating a complex geriatric patient, or anything in between, I aim to develop these skills during my time in residency and take them forward to any number of settings. In addition to the chance to gain expertise in primary care, I also hope to spend time learning from UPMC Sports Medicine fellows and working with local sports teams before ultimately pursuing a fellowship in Sports Medicine.

Do you have any special interests outside of the residency?

Some of my interests include bicycling, skiing, jiu jitsu, lacrosse, camping, traveling, and playing the guitar. I also enjoy online video games to connect with old friends.
