Cherie Wong, MD

  • Second Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

No

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program?  Why Pittsburgh?

I chose the UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Program because it provided the foundation that would best prepare me to wherever my future practice takes me. The program has so many resources and networks available to residents. The program provides various tracks as well as numerous opportunities to explore your own interests. Additionally, the faculty and staff I met were so welcoming and created a comfortable environment for the entire team.

Why I chose Pittsburgh is because I loved that the mixture of old/new town, suburban, and city environments. It is not only a great place to explore and live but also to meet individuals from diverse backgrounds.

What are your goals while here in the residency program?  How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goals are to make the most out of every opportunity and be confident to work in the different domains of family medicine whether it be pediatrics or geriatrics. Through my training I also plan to become more well-versed in my diagnostic and procedural skills. In doing so, I will become a family physician who is able to work with diverse patients and situations. I am currently exploring future pathways available to me as a family physician and my goal is to be ready for whatever that path may be.

Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?

I have always had drawing as a hobby, and I also love to watch figure skating.
