How to Apply

UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program and UPMC Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program accept applications and supporting documents through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) of the Association of American Medical Colleges. More information can be obtained by reviewing the ERAS website. The application deadline for all materials to be submitted to our program is Sunday, December 1, 2024.

All applicant interviews and tours will be conducted in a virtual setting through video conferencing this recruitment season.

Your application file must include the following:

  • Common ERAS Application Form
  • ERAS Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Passing Score on the COMLEX/USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Score Reports when available
  • Dean's Medical Student Performance Evaluation
  • Three Letters of Recommendation (prefer two from Family Medicine Physicians)
  • Photo for Identification Purpose at Interview
  • ECFMG Certificate (International Medical Graduates only)

Applications will be accepted through ERAS and reviewed by the Program Director beginning Wednesday, September 25 through Sunday, December 1, 2024. We will participate in the ERAS Program Signals and consider them only when selecting applicants to interview.  Once interviews are completed, signals will not be referenced again. If you are an applicant chosen to interview with our program, you will receive an invitation via email from the GME Senior Department Manager. 

Our virtual recruitment season will begin on Monday, October 21, 2024, and will end on Friday, January 24, 2025.  Interviews will be scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Interviews will not be scheduled from Monday, December 23 through Friday, January 3 due to the holidays.  Our offices will be closed the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 29, and on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 20. 

First-Year Positions for 2025

Twelve positions will be available through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Main Match.  Of those, four will be Osteopathic Recognized (OR) positions.
