Vatsal Gandhi, DO, MBA, MPH

  • Third Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

No, but I am interested in sports medicine, lifestyle medicine, and hospital administration.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program?  Why Pittsburgh?

I chose UPMC Shadyside due to my great core family medicine rotation during my third year of medical school.  The program combined all the benefits of being a big academic institution with all the opportunities for fellowships and rigorous medicine along with a supportive and friendly faculty and residency culture.

Pittsburgh is a great fit as I went to Duquesne University for my undergraduate degree and many of my lifelong friends still reside in the area.  In addition, I consider Pittsburgh a great city to live in with its greenery and small city atmosphere.

What are your goals while here in the residency program?  How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

My goals are to become a well-rounded family physician with a solid foundation in all aspects of patient care.  I hope to also become more knowledgeable with the business side of medicine and obtain specific proficiency in hospital administration and sports medicine.

Do you have any specials interests outside of the residency?

Playing basketball, soccer, video games; watching soccer, basketball, football, cricket, history, food, ice cream, spending time with friends and family
