Yuriko Terada, MD

  • First Year Resident

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency?

Currently not.  I am interested in LGBTQ+ health and adolescent care.

Why did you choose UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program?  Why Pittsburgh?

I felt that everyone was very enthusiastic about teaching and supporting residents to reach their goals. Alongside rotations critical to becoming a well-rounded physician, the program offers numerous elective options and tracks that can further career goals. The program also values diversity and inclusion among residents and staff, which made me feel welcomed as an IMG.

What are your goals while here in the residency program?  How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?

I aim to become a well-rounded team player who can read between the lines and see patients holistically, as individuals and as part of their families. I feel that it will enable me to understand patients from various family dynamics and social backgrounds, as well as recognize health disparities in societies which should be addressed.

Do you have any special interests outside of the residency?

I love to hike, play tennis, paint pictures, and watch movies.  I also like to travel and learn about the culture and history.
